The Sewer Cats are back with their second full-length album ‘Obnoxious’, set for release on 20th September. The album is available to pre-order now on mustard yellow vinyl and CD, along with a limited-edition artwork t-shirt.
‘Obnoxious’ is an uncompromisingly raucous assault on the senses that sees The Sewer Cats at their feral best. The new album is the band’s most sonically diverse work yet, showcasing their desire to push the boundaries of what a two piece can do.
“We wanted to make a record that leant in even harder to all the things that make us unique, and to not be afraid to push into territories that feel uncomfortable. Louder, harder, rawer, even unhinged at times – more obnoxious!” says frontperson Cass.
The Sewer Cats trademark fuzzy garage punk/riot grrrl sound digs deeper into doom-driven bluesy hardcore, whilst the duo also subvert a range of genres with a nod to grunge and post-rock, and even country. Lyrically, The Sewer Cats return to their ‘hackles-up’ patriarchy-smashing roots, directing their scrappy scrutiny towards a range of sociopolitical themes in their tongue-in-cheek snarky fashion. ‘Obnoxious’ also sees more tender, emotional and melodic moments, ultimately serving as a love letter to DIY punk ethics.
‘Obnoxious’ features the previously released sarcastic sing-along single ‘Get It’ and upcoming single ‘Boo Hoo!’. The vinyl version features ‘Defibrillator’, the bonus track collaboration with Manchester post-rock trio [slab] @slabisthree.
The record was produced and engineered by Niall Griffin (Bruise Control) and mastered by Mike Hayes (The Latchkey Kids). Cover art is by John Lilly (ALLDEEPENDS) and Jen Gaughan.
