In their short existence, Haest have been running roughshod through the UK DIY punk scene, clocking up 2 EP’s, various compilation tracks, a European tour and a ton of support slots with the likes of The Dwarves, The Adolescents, Pears, Birds In Row and Clowns. The band have developed a sound of their own; mixing influences from hardcore punk, Doom and Noise Rock. Their debut album sees them spread their wings even further, creating a truly unique piece of work.

The album, recorded at The Organworks with Ben Hannah, is “an angry meditation on our collective inertia as we move towards the inevitable end times seen through the eyes of Ronnie James Dio’s ghost” according to singer Dave. The songs seem to move his lyrical reflections on this subject seamlessly through the album. A fact the band attributes to the songs being written in sequence with each song flowing into the next and no let up from one crushing riff to the next. With no space to breath between songs the album is an all out assault from beginning to end and creates an atmosphere of foreboding chaos which perfectly sums up the bands no nonsense live shows which have made them the talk of the UK punk scene.

Hailing from Hastings, on the south coast of the UK, Haest feature members of Matilda’s Scoundrels, The Barracks, Wizard Fight and The Dead Anyways, bands who share few similarities outside of geographical ones and it is the grimy seaside resort that has played a major role in their identity including the bands namesake, a Saxon migrant leader followed by the early settlers in the area. “The scene down here is buzzing at the moment with loads of great up and coming bands and the party atmosphere at gigs is making it one of the hottest places in the UK right now” says bassist Mark on the bands hometown.

Despite the serious nature of the music on Anomie, the band have maintained a certain level of light heartedness in both their song titles, which are made up of nonsensical drunken conversation snippets and the first video taken from the album which features them horrifying a potential house buyer when they come to look around the property. “We’re not one thing” explains Dave on the apparent contradiction, “this band is dumb sometimes and super serious at other times just like we are as people and we’re not interested in any pretence, we’re not fucking actors”.
