The Kirkz Christmas Album Charity Fundraiser

It’s been ten years since The Kirkz unleashed their Christmas album on the world. I don’t think there is a Christmas that goes past since without “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” getting a spin. To mark this anniversary we thought this would be a good opportunity to release the album as a ‘pay what you want’ download to raise money for charity.

Sit back and contemplate that you live in a world where this album can be made and released on CDR then 10 years later as a digital download. What a time to be alive! Please head to our bandcamp to help us raise money for the charity Ollies Army –

The rest of this was written by Max from the Kirkz. But we’re sure you didn’t need us to tell you…

“Ten whole years. A decade of wonderment since The Kirkz left a sparkling and indelible mark on the Season with “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”.

Previously known simply for being Cheshire East’s most dangerous band, here we saw a different side to the Kirkz. A magical tale unfolds of kindness and redemption, generosity of spirit and warmth of heart set against the snowy backdrop of a remarkable Macclesfield Christmas. At its core is the central theme of good vs evil, as timeless as Christmas and The Kirkz themselves. The album is notable also for forecasting the global financial crisis which would have gripped the world a mere 12 months later.

So join our four heroes to relive those 1st jolly steps outside on Christmas Eve and be transported to a simpler time, when our chestnuts were permanently roasting on an open fire.

God bless you and God bless THE KIRKZ.

The Kirkz and TNS are proud to present this download to you on a pay what you want basis. If you do choose to offer money then 100% of all received is being donated to registered charity Ollies Army. This will help in the fight against Batten Disease, a rare but terrible condition and help ensure that little Ollie and his sister get the very most out of this and every Christmas they can.

TNSrecords Tour 2017

We have just announced a showcase tour in February and March next year. We are taking Wonk Unit, Faintest Idea, Roughneck Riot and Revenge of the Psychotronic Man on the road across the UK to a town near you.

We wanted to put together a lineup that showcased the diverse range of sounds on the label (and in the DIY punk rock scene in general). We also wanted to bring together a lineup of some of the bands we have been working with for many years and who are some of the most active bands in the DIY scene right now. These bands are all involved in booking their own gigs and supporting DIY music alongside their own live commitments.

With the help of their good friends at Our Bookings, TNSrecords are proud to announce the following dates:
Friday 24th February – The Portland Arms, Cambridge
Saturday 25th February – Camden Underworld, London
Friday 10th March – Think Tank, Newcastle
Saturday 11th March – Redd Suite, Dundee
Sunday 12th March – Bannerman’s, Edinburgh
Friday 17th March – The Maze, Nottingham
Saturday 18th March – The Exchange, Bristol

In the spirit of the DIY scene, we won’t be announcing the running orders of the gigs until the night of the event. We want to encourage crowds to check out bands they may already love and bands they may be less familiar with. TNS believes in supporting gigs from the start to the finish and checking out new music wherever possible.

Here is an introduction to the bands on the TNS tour:
Faintest Idea are a band who featured on TNSrecords’ very first release, which was a 20 track compilation CD. They have since released three fantastic full length albums. This years ‘Increasing The Minimum Rage’ is probably their best to date. They bring together infectious two-tone ska and politically fuelled street punk and are guaranteed to have you dancing. They are truly establishing themselves as one of the most exciting ska bands around.
Faintest Idea
Roughneck Riot have built a reputation as one of Europes finest live acts after relentlessly touring for the past few years. With a banjo, a mandolin and an accordion alongside your traditional punk instruments, they have really nailed the folk-punk sound and they will blast out a set list which offers one infectious anthem after another.
Wonk Unit are one of the most exciting bands in punk rock right now. Fresh from touring with Slaves, they are beginning to fill venues across Europe and the USA at their own headline gigs. They offer a truly eclectic sound that borrows from indie, punk and ska and much, much more. Their 2016 ‘Mr Splashy’ album is getting rave reviews from the underground press and more mainstream publications. They also host ‘Wonk Fest’, which is one of the highlights of the punk rock calendar.
Revenge Of The Psychotronic Man play fast… very fast. Bassist, Andy co-runs TNS and like Faintest Idea they featured on the very first compilation and have released three critically acclaimed albums on the label. These including this years Alan Partridge referencing ‘Colossal Velocity’. You can expect human pyramids, walls of death and wheelbarrow walls of death. The possibilities are endless.

We hope you are as excited by this lineup as we are. We truly believe that these are four of the most exciting bands in the UK right now and we hope you can make it out to see some of these dates. We have many more awesome bands on the label and hope that this will be the start of many more TNS tours.
Tickets and info about local supports available from individual venues/promoters. We will post the individual events as soon as we have them.
TNS release bundles will be available at all gigs.

This is what Jonny Takeaway has to say about Wonk Unit.

“Ever get the feeling you’ve been cheated?

Well, you should if you are ignorant of the air, leanings and grandeur of Wonk Unit, London’s improbable heroes. Heroes of community, of politics and melody.

Champions of Wonkfest, the ever growing London festival that is key to the punk rock calendar. Yes, punk rock. Individual, ironic, poignant and occasionally wistful, Wonk Unit deliver “Mr Splashy” in your ears and it resonates in a contemporary way, legitimizing the mantra of “21st century punks”.
My mate Sean brought home the latest Descendents effort on vinyl recently and spun a few tunes. My reaction?“This sounds like Wonk Unit”. Case closed.

Ever get the feeling you’ve been cheated? Honk If You Wonk.”

Tell me you’re not excited! Don’t hang about. We have a limited amount of some of the colour variations.

Politically distressed/Pissed up Punk Rock n’ Roll from the hard knock pits of London, SHOT have gained nothing but momentum and respect since their inception in 2012, with their self titled EP under their belt and their debut album being released in 2014 which consisted of 13 tracks of politically charged punk rock that maintains the anarchist sentiment.

SHOT are now ready to release their 2nd EP on 7″ titled ‘The Masquerade Of Wolves’ which is much heavier and harder than before and manages to encapsulated the anger and contempt this band have towards the state.

Be sure to keep an eye out for SHOT they frequent the autonomous spaces of London, raising funds for grass roots radical causes and also tearing up venues across the city of London, UK and Europe.

In 2013 the band recorded a Maida Vale session for Radio 1 and also had a track picked by Steve Lamacq in a compilation of his five favourite independent bands of the same year. They are massive supporters of the DIY ethic with all members having put on their own gigs. Bassist/vocalist, Andy Davies co-runs independent punk label TNSrecords and is part of the collective that set up and run Manchester Punk Festival. Guitarist/vocalist, Matt Woods co-runs the popular MBBP live night in Manchester.

Their lyrical content ranges from DIY ethics, supporting local music venues, political ranting, drinking anthems and cult footballers. The band has shared the stage with the likes of Bad Religion and NoMeansNo, whilst racking up around 500 gigs and building a reputation for a high energy live show with huge crowd participation.

Here is what Alex has to say about the album:

So we’d released  Flying the Japanese Flag and it was an album of such rage and technical songwriting that  i wasn’t sure i was ever gonna be able to equal the quality of it. Songwriting was new to me back then, i had no idea if the previous album was a fluke or not.

I’d recently moved to Los Angeles so Wonk was kinda on a hiatus. The line up of Jap Flag had kinda disbanded whilst i was away so on my return and after seeing Snuff’s Duncan Redmonds standing in on drums for Leatherface, i approached him about doing a few drum sessions for us. 4 sessions later and Trolleys Thank You was born. A melancholy mix of brand new and old songs dating back to when The Flying Medallions broke up. Having Duncan join us for this record was literally a dream come true. Snuff were the soundtrack to my youth and Duncan is a total hero of mine! I was and still am beyond stoked that he’s part of this record! He is a wonderful silly chap and friend.x

The whole record is essentially 2 ep’s. The B side ,”Wonk Unit saved my life” features Adam Stone (From The Apostates) on drum duties. Adam like me is a recovering alcoholic and was in a bad way when he first joined the Wonk .It was nice to have him join me on the wagon and have a fellow brother of sobriety to share our day to day struggles with haha .He turned up one day with “Wonk Unit saved my life” inked on his stomach so that became the name of the B side.

I recently wrote out the lyrics for the sleeve notes. Total misery! hahahaha I assure you, life was quite happy when this record was produced though!

On a final note, the title to Trolleys and how it came about is worth mentioning. A photographer girlfriend of mine used to go out in the middle of the night with her mates drinking cans of cider, smoking fags, getting naked and then do crazy photo shoots of them in weird inapproapriate places. Sitting on traffic bollards in the middle of the high streets, crossing zebra crossings, on swings in parks. One of the pics was of them sitting in a shopping trolley in a bay under a Sainsbury’s sign saying Trolleys Thank you.The pic was so obscure and cool but alas, her famous photographer of a brother took offence of his sisters wild antics so the picture was pulled at the last minute. The cover photo of me in the lift was taken on route to Sainsbury’s to recreate the original but we ended up using the lift shot. x

The album is available on both translucent green and black. Don’t hang about if you want the green version! The album will come with a download code.

Green – 97
Black – 220

Revenge of the Psychotronic Man Release Album Teaser Video

Continuing the theme of naming their releases after quotes from their hero and mentor, Alan Partridge, Revenge of the Psychotronic Man’s new record is called ‘Colossal Velocity’. To launch the album, the band have paid homage to Alan by stealing/adapting the teaser trailer for his debut film ‘Alpha Papa’.
Check out the video HERE
Colossal Velocity is actually one of the rejected titles for the film discussed in their teaser trailer. Watch it here.

‘Colossal Velocity’ is the highly anticipated follow up to 2012’s critically acclaimed ‘Shattered Dreams Parkway’ in the summer of 2016.

Revenge described the new record as “having all the speed and energy people expect, but with some new twist and turns” and “lyrical content that ranges from changing the world through one minute songs with lyrics you can’t decipher, space travel and former footballer Niall Quinn”.

The album will be released through TNSrecords (and 5FeetUnder Records in Denmark) in July 2016.
